The Kitchen New Orleans Soul-food & Cajun: Reviews & Ratings
This is a must try! Staff was very polite, food was amazing and just what I was looking for. This is some of the best catfish I’ve ever had! The Cajun Mac was unique and absolutely delicious. Red beans and rice were spot on! You won’t get this much amazing food for this price anywhere. Don’t let the fact that it’s in the Shell station dissuade you, go!
So I was trying to find a soul food spot because my usual place was closed, and I found this one online! I’m not gon lie yall… I was terrified because it was in a gas station- but it was soooo good! I forgot the mac and cheese was Cajun so the spice through me off at first, but it was delicious. I also got the catfish and greens. Greens were a tiny bit on the sweeter side, but they weren’t bad by any means, and the catfish was delicious and freshly fried. Also- the cornbread was yummy and sweet how I like it! To think I paid under $15 for the portion size is insane, and I will absolutely be back!
Good Lawd! It’s in a gas station, but hey, this is not gas station food! Very good. And the people are super nice. You can tell they care. Thank you for the good service and good food. Recommended. God bless y’all.
This was one of my more memorable experiences for your favorite traveled friend! I was looking for a place to eat while up to leave San Antonio. So I "Googled" restaurants around me and found the kitchen. But I didn't realize that I was actually here!!!! I actually struck up a conversation with the owner while figuring out that I was there at the same time! The service was exceptional and the food just as well! Whenever in San Antonio, please visit this establishment!
Food is very tasty. I ordered Cajun meatloaf with mac & cheese, red beans & rice. Serving was big and the service was very friendly. The star of the show was the banana pudding. So rich! I almost didn’t find the restaurant because I didn’t see any signage outside. (They are located inside a Shell gas station) Many people were getting to go orders, but there are two tables inside if you want eat there. Worth the drive for some good home cooking.
Can’t wait to try more of the menu but I got the catfish, 6 shrimp, fried okra, and green beans! This plate was well worth the price because I was able to get two meals from it. The catfish batter was perfectly seasoned, and I know it may look a little dark in the picture, but I assure you it was not overcooked. Not one item was over battered and they all tasted great! The green beans had a little kick to them but nothing overpowering. Some might say the green beans were salty, but I didn’t mind it, so just make sure to taste it before trying to add anything more. The only reason I’m giving the atmosphere 3 stars is because I wish this was a restaurant you could sit down at to really enjoy your meal! Perfection everywhere else
Soul food at its finest in my opinion. Been twice in two days and will go tomorrow for lunch! First day I had the fish and shrimp combo with red beans and rice and the cajun mac and cheese. I put my fork down after each bite to savor the flavor. Today I had the fried pork chops with greens and red beans. I was gnawing on the bones! I didn't realize it was in a gas station but dont let it throw you off. You can call in your order which is what I'll do tomorrow because the chicken takes 22 minutes to cook. They cook everything to order. Comes out hot and delicious. The portions are huge and the prices are low in my opinion. I couldn't even come close to finishing it all so i get to eat it again for dinner! Very happy I found this place!
The owners and I have been friends 19yrs when they had a little spot on O'Connor. Due to getting on base and travel I haven't had their food in a long time. Had some Oct10th, what I been missing. Catfish poboy, red beans and rice with side greens. The flavor and little bit of heat from bean. I'm glad I have found Cajun food again
